Irving Police Department Advancement
Once officers have completed their first two years of patrol experience, they are eligible for both promotion opportunities and transfers to specialized divisions. Promotions include advancement to supervisory positions based on promotional exams. All study materials for the promotional exams are provided by the department. The Irving Police Department consists of a wide variety of transfer opportunities including traffic officer, school resource officer, criminal investigator, full-time tactical officer, DWI officer, crime-scene officer, gang-intervention officer, K9 officer, academy-training officer, plus many others. Additional training is offered by the department to prepare police officers for new positions in specialized divisions.
