About Irving
The City of Irving, which is located in the northwest part of Dallas County midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, is home to 212,000 residents and is the 13th largest city in Texas. The city encompasses approximately 69 square miles, much of which is available as future development. Irving contains the Las Colinas area, home of the largest equestrian sculpture in the world--the Mustangs at Las Colinas. Construction will begin soon for a project in the area that includes a four or five level entertainment venue which will seat 7,000 in a concert showroom and 2,000 in an outdoor equestrian arena. The project also will include a retail venue of approximately 217,000 square feet of quality retail, cinema and office space, with a hotel and condominium/spa. Also, many large companies have headquarters in Irving, including ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Omni Hotels, Zale Corporation, and Fluor Corporation.
The City of Irving holds AAA bond ratings which are affirmed by Moody’s Investor Services and Standard & Poor’s. This AAA rating is attributed to the city’s large tax base, strong financial management policies, formal investment and reserve policies, strong general fund reserves and conservative debt profile.
Irving, which has an excellent public school system, is home of The North Hills School, voted the 15th best public school in the nation by Newsweek magazine (2010). Irving is also home to Cistercian Preparatory School, a day school for boys, grades 5 through 12; the Highlands School, a college preparatory school for Pre-K through 12; and two Catholic Pre-K through 8th grade schools. The city is also the site of the University of Dallas and North Lake College, a campus of the Dallas County Community College District.
